After many years of promise, in 2003 an Oakhill Golden Oldies, Over 35's team was finally formed by former Peter McCabe Shield Winner, Marc Witham.
The team was coined "The Withered Oaks" by former Club President, Sean Fannin, and the initial line up was a who's who of Oakhill Rugby with names such a Craig Exley, Patrick "Curly" Walsh, Warwick Anderson and Simon Taylor.
The Withered Oaks remained undefeated throughout their inaugual season, including efforts at the Eastwood Charcoals Gala Day and Epping Rams Gala Day. An early rivalry was also formed with the Gordon Stags, with whom the Withered Oaks drew with on the two occasions they met.
Following the first season of play, the Committee resolved to strike a new award titled the "Well Withered Oak" to recognise the efforts of a member of the Withered Oaks squad who best represents the ethos of the Golden Oldies game. The receipient is a player who puts in effort on the field whilst also enjoying himself off the field.
